Nuclear Event DetectorsGE Aviation and Matra BAE Dynamics have developed the detector to be radiation hard to tactical nuclear environments over the entire military temperature range. Trigger thresholds and detection output pulse are adjustable between 1E3 & 1E5 Gy/s and between 0.1ms & 10 ms, respectively. Other features include low stand-by power consumption (2 mA) and a built in test facility. The functionality can be integrated into systems either as discrete components or through customised electronic modules, such as the 14 pin Dual in Line package shown. Further developments are planned to introduce NEDs operating at 500 microamp stand-by current for hand-held, portable or battery operated equipment and a surface mount option. ![]() |
